Sheldon Sears may operate a modern facility with contemporary technology, but he still has an old-school philosophy when it comes to running a business. For him, this means getting customers in the shop within 24 hours or less of calling. It also sometimes means going out to meet customers who have broken down on the road. He will do almost anything to squeeze in an emergency call right away. He has mentored his staff and mechanics to do the same, and they are all committed to going to surprising lengths to serve their customers.

Sheldon had worked for other businesses for many years, including a number of auto dealerships. He enjoyed tinkering with cars on the side but his house didn’t have a garage. Instead of building a garage he bought a building that was for sale. At the time, he only intended for it to be a place to work on his “hobby.” However, after just a year and a half or so, he was busy enough with his “side job” that he quit his full time job and started SS Automotive.

That was over a decade ago. Since that time Sheldon has done numerous renovations and upgrades to the original building in order to provide the best and most efficient service to his customers. He also grew from a staff of one to a crew of several mechanics as well as sales and support staff. He is extremely proud of his staff and grateful for their dedication to their profession and to the shop’s customers. Of course, being in business in a small town for so long, most of the shop’s customers are familiar faces or friends. “Everyone knows everyone,” says Sheldon, so business is always much more personal. The people really make the town, although the setting and the access to the outdoors is almost as amazing as the people. “You can go from here on an ATV and you're in the boonies!” says Sheldon, plus there’s skiing, skating, the race track, the dirt bike track and many other places to get out and play outside.
